-- Mikayla Sonneborn(Staff Writer)
A Great and Terrible Beauty is a suspenseful and breathtaking story about a group of girls in the 1800’s. The book is one you don’t want to put down after you’ve started it. The main characters name is Gemma Doyle. She is a fiery red haired girl who speaks her mind and defends those she cares about. She lives in India and more than anything wants to visit England when her mom goes. She is sent to an English boarding school after her mother commits suicide due to an unforeseen event. Gemma begins to have visions of different things and she is warned to stop by a strange man. At the boarding school she is roomed with an orphan girl named Ann, who is not very good at speaking up for herself. Ann is going to the school on a scholarship and she is shy and not very pretty. At the school there is a group of girls who are all popular. One girl is named Felicity she is strong-willed, beautiful, sometimes compassionate, and sometimes completely horrible. Another girl in the group of popular girls name is Pippa; she is beautiful but she has been cursed with a horrible disease. This four girls bond by a few things, they all want freedom, understanding, and power. These totally different girls face obstacle together and make decisions that will decide the rest of there live along with other forces. This book is very interesting and I definitely recommend reading it. |
