Gossip Girl (TV Series)

Ashley Stoneking (Staff Writer)

Gossip Girl is a tale of six New York high school students. Four of the six students have fancy, rich, snobby families! (Which are the Archibalds, Waldorfs, Van der Woodsen’s, and the Basses). The clan of rich kids goes to an Upper East Side private school. They are definitely not your average teenagers: they can drink, smoke and do all kinds of naughty things whenever they want to and no one cares, because they practically own the town.

The “Queen Bee” would be Blair Waldorf, a sassy brunette that rules the school. Her best friend is Serena Van Der Woodsen, a crazy wild blonde who always gets what she wants! Nate Archibald is into drinking, and hiding his family secret of being poor. Once being the richest family in all of New York, the Archibald’s lost all of their money in a bad business deal. Chuck Bass is a rich snob, who loves friendly women, drinking and buying anything he wants! Dan and Jenny Humphrey are poor kids from Brooklyn who got a full ride into this fancy private school where the others attend. Dan is an art-loving, poem writing, nerdy, kind, and loving guy that you can’t help but to love. Jenny is a fashionista that loves clothes, shopping, and boys, of course.

My opinion on the show

The show is somewhat like the books, but not as much as I would like it to be. As a reader of the books, I thought the Hollywood Directors would have matched actors with the character descriptions of the books and they really didn’t for some of them. For instance, Jenny Humphrey is supposed to be a chubby, brown curly- haired girl, who was somewhat dorky. On the show she is skinny blonde with straight hair, she doesn’t stick out as much as the book made her. In the books, Vanessa, Dan’s love interest on the show, is normally Caucasian, bald, and a rocker chick in love with photography. On the show, Vanessa is an African American with curly, long brown hair, and isn’t a rocker at all! Although the show itself is enjoyable, if I hadn’t read the books I’d love it.
