The Love Guru

Ashley Stoneking (Staff Writer)

The Love Guru is a comedy about an American who left his gates of an ashram in India as a child and was raised by gurus. He then leaves India and returns to the U.S. to seek fame and fortune in the work of self help and spirituality. The Guru Pitka (Austin Powers) is first assigned to one of Toronto Maple Leafs best star hockey players Darren Roanoke (Romany Malco) and his wife when they separate. His wife, after the split, starts dating the L.A. Kings star goalie Jacques Grande (Justin Timberlake) out of revenge, sending her husband into a deep depression and unable to perform on the ice. The hockey team’s owner Jane Bullard (Jessica Alba) and Coach Chervok (Verne Troyer) get put into a bad position with the fans of the team! Pitka must return the couple back to the bliss they once had so they can break the 40 year “Bullard Curse” so they can win the Stanley Cup. The film is rated PG 13 for crude and sexual content throughout the film, language, some comic violence and drug references.

My favorite parts of the movie were when you got the famous quotes of Guru Pitka such as “Tonight I want to take you from “nowhere” to “Now” “Here” and the fact he believes in D.R.A.M.A. which is Distraction Regression Adjustment Maturation and Action.  I give this amazingly funny comedy 4 stars - it was that good. You can’t describe the chemistry between the cast, you can see how good Jessica Alba and Mike Myers worked together through the lines. They had to put a lot of thought into the acronyms which always spelled out hilarious words. I personally loved the film and would watch it over and over anytime I could!
