Becoming Jane |
|
|
--Tonya Yoders (Staff Writer)
Becoming Jane stars Anne Hathaway (The Princess Diaries, The Devil Wears Prada) and James McAvoy (The Chronicles of Narnia, The Last King of Scotland). It’s about the life of Jane Austen before she was famous for writing her novels, “Pride and Prejudice” and “Emma”. The romance between her and James’s character, Tom LeFroy, was a real one, which was the biggest inspiration for her work. The film has wonderful cinematography and great direction. Throughout it there are little things that are known to have been in Austen’s real life, like her circular writing table, her friend’s pug dog, and her deaf brother. Little touches like those are what make it seem real.
Among Hathaway and McAvoy in the cast are Julie Walters and Maggie Smith, Mrs. Weasley and Professor McGonagall in the Harry Potter movies. They add a bit of experience to the movie, completely inhabiting their characters.
I recommend this movie to anyone who is a fan of Jane Austen or anyone who wants to cry at the end. |
