Good Afternoon,

West Greene School District, along with the rest of our community, have been navigating through some difficult times.  As a district, we have been trying to receive answers to the questions that we have.  We did, in fact, receive some of those answers throughout the week.  While there are still a lot of unknowns, we have decided to proceed with the launch of our Continuation of Instruction Plan for our teachers and students.

The document that I am sharing with you is the plan that has been sent to our district teachers.  We will begin online instruction beginning April 1st, with a possible secondary start date of April 6th.  All instruction will be either online or through the completion of packets for those families without internet access.

For those families that have internet access and would need a device, we ask that you contact your child's building principal so that we can assign a Chromebook device.

With regard to grading, we will proceed with a "Pass/Fail" system in grades K-8.  We will continue with traditional grading in grades 9-12 with the purpose of higher-education applications, scholarships, and GPA.

Our teachers will be participating in training for the next week and a half, preparing to provide effective instruction to your children.  Please look for more information from your children's teacher in the coming days.

We know that we can't replicate quality in-school instruction, however we are going to try and make the best of this situation and continue to educate your child in an online/distant learning setting.

As of 4:30 PM on March 20, 2020, we do not know if this closure of PA schools will be extended.  However, reading the tea leaves, it looks as if this may be an extended time away from the classroom, possibly lasting through the remainder of the school year.

We will continue to keep you up-to-date with all of the latest information.

Sincerely,

West Greene SD Administrative Team
