West Greene Envirothon students unpacked and sorted brook trout eggs to kick off this year’s Trout In the Classroom program. This task is completed in almost total darkness because light damages the eggs. Many students ask when we can see the trout. It will most likely take two weeks before they can be exposed to direct light. So keep your eyes peeled on the trout tank around November 14th and you may see the trout for the first time this year.

“West Greene Envirothons’s participation in the Trout In the Classroom program was made possible through a unique partnership between PA Fish and Boat Commission and PA Council of Trout Unlimited. This partnership, coupled with assistance from local conservation organizations, was created to introduce Pennsylvania students to coldwater resources and their importance to all communities. The partnership also provides brook trout eggs, trout food, technical assistance, curriculum connections and teacher workshops each year.
