Job Summary: The School Counselor for grades 7-12 is responsible for assisting students in their personal, social, academic, and career development, with the aim of promoting their well-being, academic success, and future readiness. This role involves providing counseling services, guidance, and support to students, collaborating with teachers and parents, and contributing to the overall success of the school community.


  • Master's degree in School Counseling or a related field.

  • State licensure or certification as a school counselor.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Empathy and a genuine concern for the well-being of students.

  • Knowledge of adolescent development and educational systems.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Individual Counseling:

    • Conduct one-on-one counseling sessions with students to address personal, social, and emotional issues.

    • Help students set and achieve academic and personal goals.

    • Provide crisis intervention and support as needed.

  2. Group Counseling:

    • Organize and facilitate group counseling sessions to address common issues such as peer pressure, bullying, and academic stress.

    • Foster a supportive and inclusive environment within counseling groups.

  3. Academic Support:

    • Assist students in developing effective study skills, time management, and organizational skills.

    • Collaborate with teachers and administrators to identify and address academic challenges.

    • Develop academic plans and monitor progress toward graduation.

  4. Career Development:

    • Administer career assessments and provide guidance on career exploration and goal-setting.

    • Help students with college and career planning, including college applications, financial aid, and scholarship opportunities.

  5. Social and Emotional Learning:

    • Implement programs and activities that promote social and emotional learning (SEL) among students.

    • Provide resources and strategies to help students manage stress, anxiety, and other emotional challenges.

  6. Conflict Resolution:

    • Mediate conflicts among students and promote healthy communication and problem-solving skills.

    • Address issues related to bullying and harassment.

  7. Parent and Teacher Collaboration:

    • Collaborate with parents and teachers to develop strategies to support students' academic and personal development.

    • Attend parent-teacher conferences and team meetings as needed.

  8. Data and Records Management:

    • Maintain accurate records of counseling sessions, assessments, and student progress.

    • Use data to evaluate the effectiveness of counseling programs and services.

  9. Professional Development:

    • Stay up-to-date with best practices in school counseling through continuous learning and professional development.
