Isabella Cunningham (Grade 11) receives $250 prize for winning design.

On Tuesday, April 25, West Greene was visited by representatives of the Highway Safety Network.  The HSF sponsors our Youth Traffic Safety Council here at West Greene.

Once the high school student body gathered in the auditorium, Jaci Brice of the HSF presented a cash prize to one of our students for her winning entry into the HSF Distracted Driving Billboard contest.  Isabella Cunningham, a junior, submitted a hand-drawn billboard design with an anti-distracted driving message to the contest.  Her entry was selected as earning 3rd place!  For winning, she was presented a check for $250 and the Youth Traffic Safety Council was also presented a check for the same amount to use for club activities.  Reproductions of her design, along with images based on her design concept, will be posted within the school in the future as a message to help promote safe driving habits.

After Isabella’s award, students heard from retired State Trooper, Jim Gregg, who presented his program, "Nothing is by Accident" where he spoke through his experiences about teen drivers, underage drinking, and making good decisions behind the wheel.  This program was arranged as we near Prom season (WG Prom is April 29) to help promote safe driving practices and help keep our students safe by encouraging smart decisions behind the wheel.

Thank you to the Highway Safety Network and its sponsors for helping to make this program possible.
