Mrs. Hildreth was genuinely excited at the opportunity to provide WG students the opportunity to participate in Portals, an initiative that was focused on the digital preservation of historical sites throughout the small river town of Brownsville, known as the Perennial Project.

WG was fortunate to be invited to participate in this project, and the team of students, along with Mrs. Hildreth, quickly agreed upon the digital preservation of the Crouse Schoolhouse as their main character.

With the help of Case Technologies, WG students were able to complete a full digital scan of the schoolhouse from both inside and out. The scans were then stored on an AWS cloud server, where students were able to build a virtual world with the help of Fortnite! Well, not exactly Fortnite, but with Unreal Engine, the most powerful real-time 3-D creation tool is utilized to build the Fortnite video game.

It was a proud moment for our district to view the presentation of their final work to an audience of local politicians, educators, and workforce development leaders. Congratulations go out to students Cierrha Balazick, Dylan Hughes, Duncan Scott, Hunter Gorby, and Jacob Orndoff.

We look forward to being able to share with you the final project very soon! Check out this article from the Observer-Reporter for more information!
